ON A MISSION FOR CHILDREN'S CARE HERNANDO COUNTY (Bay News 9) Christy Jobmann and her husband are on a mission.
Two years ago, their seventh-month old daughter Rachael died after a doctor's misdiagnosis.
By the time it was determined their daughter needed critical pediatric care, it was too late.
The Jobmanns want to make sure that doesn't happen to any other children in Hernando County, where there are no pediatric intensive or critical care units.
Hospitals in Hernando are geared for emergency care but more if more sophisticated help is needed, children must be taken to Tampa.
"There's going to be a hole forever,'' Jobmann said of her daughter's death. "But I know if we can prevent this from happening and we can take care of the children that are here that is going to make the pain a lot less.''
Jobmann has set up a foundation called Our Baby RIA Foundation and has petitions from throughout Hernando County demanding much needed emergency pediatric services be made available in Hernando County. So far, she has about 5,000 signatures on the petition.
In August, Jobmann will take her cause to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg and St. Joseph's Childrens Hospital in Tampa. She is scheduled to meet with hospital administrators about her foundation's next step.
"We're out there,'' Jobmann . "We're going to keep having events. We're going to keep having goals that we set until we see it happen.''
